Physiatry is typically pronounced fizz-EYE-uh-tree, and physiatrist is pronounced fizz-EYE-uh-trist.
Some people also say fizz-EE-uh-tree and fizz-EE-uh-trist — both pronunciations are widely used and considered correct.

A physiatrist (also known as a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation doctor) is a physician trained to see the whole picture — not just one diagnosis or one body part. Physiatry focuses on how the brain, nerves, muscles, and joints work together to influence movement, pain, and recovery. Care is comprehensive and centered on restoring function.
…And just to clarify: physiatrists are not podiatrists, psychiatrists, psychologists, or physical therapists (though we’re often mistaken for them!).

Schedule an Appointment
The best way to receive individualized medical guidance is by scheduling an appointment. Requests for both new and established patients are typically reviewed within 2 business days. Due to limited staffing, same-day appointments are not currently available.Patient Portal
Established patients may send brief, non-urgent messages through the patient portal. This is best for simple questions or care coordination and does not replace an appointment. Messages are reviewed during business hours.Email
For general questions, you’re welcome to email us at info@foundationsphysiatry.com or use the form on the “Contact” page.Phone
Our phone number is listed at the bottom of the website. To help us respond more efficiently, we encourage using online scheduling or email when possible. Please note that our phone line does not support text messaging. -
No. Foundations Physiatry is a specialty Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) practice and does not serve as a primary care clinic or neurology replacement. We encourage all patients to maintain care with their primary care provider and keep any scheduled neurology or specialty appointments. Our role is often complementary and consultative, focusing on functional evaluation, rehabilitation-based treatment planning, and coordinated care.

Foundations Physiatry is not an urgent care or emergency facility and does not have the infrastructure to manage medical emergencies. If you believe you are experiencing a medical emergency, please call 911 or go to the nearest Emergency Department.
If you have an urgent concern related to a condition for which you are currently receiving care through our clinic, we recommend submitting an appointment request and including “Urgent” or “ASAP” in the scheduling notes. We will make every effort to schedule you as soon as possible for an in-person evaluation, based on clinical urgency and availability.
Please note that portal messages and email are not monitored continuously and should not be used for urgent concerns.
Your Billing Questions, Answered.
-
Foundations Physiatry is a self-pay (cash-pay) medical practice, meaning we do not contract with insurance companies. Payment is due at the time of service.
This model allows for longer, more personalized visits and a more thoughtful approach to care, without the constraints of insurance-based systems.
This approach is often a good fit for patients looking for more time with their physician, a deeper understanding of their symptoms and diagnoses, and a clear, structured path forward. It also prioritizes thoughtful collaboration, helping ensure your care team—including physicians, therapists, and specialists—is working together to support your recovery and function.
If you’re unsure whether this model feels like the right fit, we’re happy to help you think through your options.

We require a credit card on file prior to your visit. A secure credit card authorization form will be sent to you as part of the intake process.
Payment is collected at the time of service using the card on file, unless otherwise arranged.
If you have any questions or need assistance with this process, we’re happy to help.

Yes. Patients with commercial health insurance (e.g. Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Cigna, and Kaiser Permanente) are welcome to receive care at Foundations Physiatry.
Upon request, we are happy to provide a superbill or documentation for patients seeking out-of-network reimbursement for their commercial health insurance plans.
-
Yes. Patients with Medicare are welcome to receive care at Foundations Physiatry.
Dr. Emigh has chosen to opt out of Medicare so she can provide longer, more personalized visits and a more comprehensive approach to care. Visits are provided on a self-pay basis and require a simple private contract confirming that neither you nor the practice will submit claims to Medicare.
We understand this model may feel different and are happy to help you decide if it feels like the right fit for your care.

Due to Medicaid regulations, we are generally unable to provide services to patients with Medicaid as their primary insurance, even on a self-pay basis.
We recognize this is frustrating and appreciate your understanding. We are actively exploring community clinics and outreach options to better support Medicaid patients in our region.
